Blaze (Alba Daer at Tarheel)

Post by Tarheel » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:04 am

Alba Daer at Tarheel (Blaze)

28 Mar 2008 – 09 May 2012

Sire to the OBX 09 litter born 4 Feb 2009

Blaze was our pack leader, our Sheriff of the backyard, always on patrol and making his rounds. He would hop up on the fence quietly watching the neighbors, deliverymen, and always there to greet you. He had the biggest smile to greet you which would welcome most people, but scare a few with his big white teeth showing. Blaze had a howl like no other Tamaskan. It was deep and rough, and when he would howl it was for getting everybody’s attention. He would love to lick your face, there would be not one square inch that he would miss, to include the inside of your nose. Too much face licking at times, but it always made us laugh.
He was very smart, so smart he would problem solve like a person. As a one year old, he noticed that when he walked around the Koi pond he could get the Koi to move in different directions by his actions. He taught himself how to herd. Next step was wading in the pond and herding the fish, and the final learning process was to catch and eat the Koi.

The opening of baby gates was a special talent; we even tried reversing the gate to confuse him. It didn’t work, Blaze lifted and pulled instead of lifting and pushing. The baby gate was for the benefit of the other Tamaskans, but Blaze would open the gate for them as well. I don’t know why we still have the gates up. No dog crate could contain him. If he wanted out, he would get out, but when you told him it was time to go night night, off he went and waited for the kennel door to be closed.

Most people lock their doors to keep to unwanted people from walking in. We had to lock our doors to keep Blaze from opening doors. We could never get him to close a door behind him. Blaze would simply grab the large sliding glass door by the handle, place his front paws against the door jam, and pull the door open. Somehow he could work open a conventional round door knob. I think he used his mouth to turn the knob.

Blaze was an amazing dog, and he was more than just a dog, he was family. He will be missed, and we feel fortunate to have loved and cared for him for the 4 short years he was with us.

There’s a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego.
The other is Good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness and truth.

The wolf that wins? The one you feed!

RIP Blaze. I will always remember him as a puppy cuddling up with one of my litters. He stood out like a sore thumb because
he was a few weeks older. He always held a special place in my heart :D lovely boy.

RIP Blaze. It is a shame that I never got the chance to meet you in person, but I feel I know you enough through the stories your loving family graciously shares with the world.

Run free, sweet boy. Take care of all the fur babies on the other side and know that you are dearly missed by many. <3 Now, you can catch as many koi fish in the ponds as you want! :D

Such a sad and tragic loss, one that was felt by the whole Tamaskan community worldwide. Though he is gone, he will never be forgotten; his memory will live on in our hearts and through the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. RIP Blaze :(

Blaze was an amazing boy with the most incredible sense of humour and personality. I still remember him playing with the OBX litter......using his paw to slide them across
the floor like a hockey puck. He was a special, special boy. I am so fortunate to have a pup from his only litter. RIP sweet precious Blaze

Blaze was always one of my favourite Tamaskans. He seemed to have a great personality, and John has confirmed this with his beautiful tribute. RIP Blaze, you will be sadly missed even by those who never had the good fortune to meet you.

I missed this topic, but still want to say that my thoughts are with you and your family. You have suffered such a terrible loss, Blaze was a one in a lifetime dog if I read the things you wrote about him. I loved his looks and the pictures where was hanging over the fence, looking at everything outside the gate. I hope with all my heart that you and your family never have to go through something like this again...

I know it's been months now and normally I would let a very sad topic like this one rest but I thought I'd come on here once more pay respect to Alpha Blaze as he's the one who helped further draw me into the breed after Debby's video and I've always hoped to one day meet him. :( Blaze is not only the first male to start the Tarheel Pack, he is a very handsome and talented individual and always very outgoing. Although Blaze has passed over the bridge to Nirvana, I know that he still leaves his permanent marks here in this world just as Tundra did in the form of their beautiful children and grandchildren. You've left a good legacy, Blaze. Please watch over the grandchildren for the Bannows, the Mohrings, and all of the future owners of Tamaskans from your genetic line ...

Rest in Paradise, my favourite Tamaskan
