Tarheel Tamaskan (Sequoia x Jaeger) litter expected

Post by Tarheel » Mon Mar 04, 2013 11:39 pm

With the best intentions to keep males and females separated during a heat cycle, somehow Sequoia got pregnant. We were not planning on breeding Sequoia until 2014 as her last litter was born Aug 2012. If I could explain how they managed to mate or when they did this, I would. All we can imagine is that when secured in separate crates while we were gone as some point, Sequoia escaped her crate. However, Jaeger never escaped his crate, nor did Sequoia ever break into Jaeger's crate.
The Vet x-rayed Sequoia on March first, and was able to count five puppies. Sequoia also received a clean bill of health and reassurance that she was well recovered and able to have this litter with no expected complications.
I make this announcement as a sign of transparency that the TDR now has with its supporters. The TDR breeders regulations are available for anyone to read that state "Not breed any female more then once within a year". My intent was not to breed and I believe I made a proper effort in attempting to not allow this mating. With even the best intentions, accidents do happen. What I have learned is that a determined male and female will tear through crates, doors, and walls to get to each other when they are in season.
What is most important is the health of Sequoia and the puppies.

I'm very happy you are letting everyone know. I have my fingers crossed for all the puppies and people involved. If I had my house I'd probably apply for a female...I think I'm addicted lol.

Congrats :)

Accidents will happen, especially when they are determined. I'm excited to see how these pups turn out and hope nothing else unexpected happens. :)

Even though this is an accident, I am excited about this litter as it is the first litter that is not closely related to JJ and OBX line born in the states, I hope some of these pups go to breeding homes.

Will you be doing a full DNA profiling on all the puppies to make sure they are all Jaegars?

well eeeeeh what can I say......If Jaeger is anything like his dad and brother.......yes than when a girl in heat he will do any effort to get to that girl........Normally they are the best behaved boys you know but ooooooooo the worst when a girl is on her peak days.....I know......I am bending everything here also right now because Sierra is in her peak days and ooooo boy these two boys........

Hope all goes well with mommy and the baby's.

Holy komoly, well on the bright side I am happy to see that you are honest that this happened even though it was not planned and I do hope that Sequoia is alright as well. Accidents do happen, but even so I am excited to see the pups. I will pray that all of the pups are healthy and fine much like the four that Kana gave birth to and that everyone is alright.

We can only guess by the x-ray results showing 5 puppies. USA Veterinarians do not x-ray pregnant females until day 45 out of 63. any earlier the skeletal structure is not developed enough for x-rays. x-rays were done on 1 march, so no later than 18 March by guessing. I am thinking more like march 10-12. anyone want to start a friendly guessing game on their birth date?

Freyja x Zephyr pups are due on March 12

I will guess March 17th for the Sequoia x Jaeger pups.

Won't be the first time something like that happens. Why do you think my girl doesn't stand anywhere close to the boys when they are in their crate...........

Points for their determination and nice to see some honesty.
I'll guess the 13th of march.

guess I got just lucky then... we had a bitch in heat last month and the males wrecked 4 cages to get to her. And during the day they were only separated through kennelbars.
how lucky can we get... Something to think about next time.

I know males can sire litters at a pretty young age but 2/3 months... I doubt so ;)

Take good care of Sequoia, John and Christina. I confident that she'll make it through this but I am more concern about the puppies and I think it might be a good idea to have someone outside IF POSSIBLE around, maybe someone in the Mohring side? If you understand what I mean?

Just to have someone who is trustworthy enough to temporarily take care of Jaeger or Zorro in the future during the times when Kana and Sequoia come into heat and so you can 100% prevent accidental matings from occurring again. No offence and I know that you've been doing a good job so far but nonetheless, whatever has happened is done and I can only wish for the best! ;)

Sequoia could carry black and Jaeger has black siblings so it is possible that pup could stay black but could also lighten up a lot. Like the two black pups from Sequoia's last litter which I believe are wolfgrey now.

Yes he have from his dad. The markings Bobbi have they call it wolfgrey but that comes form black genes :) That is also why Jaegers brother Akim is black and Nanuq have lots of black ;)
