I have a dog...

Post by Ariana » Wed Jun 05, 2013 6:55 am

...and as you'd guess, I'm a little unsure of her background.

I took in three sled dogs from a touring business trying to downsize their kennel and keep them at my parents' where they have ample room to run, and if it's cool enough, I hook'em up to the cart for some exercise (our family once bred and raced Siberian Huskies). Anyway, the previous owners acquired Timber (lady of interest) and Hawkeye (looks Siberian but his energy suggests he could be half to 1/4 Alaskan Husky) from another gal who did sled dog tours over in Idaho. The gal in ID had to get out of dogs due to some family illness. I know Alaskan lines can yield some varied coat colors and texture, but her slender face and almond eyes are something else. She's about 40 lbs, and has a wonderfully soft coat (long undercoat and guard hairs), unlike most Sibes and Alaskans I've encountered (though I know they exist). Who knows! She's a great consistent puller! I feel like the chances of her being any bit Tamaskan are slim, but perhaps she's got some bloodlines from Scandinavia. It's hard to say. Can anyone hazard a guess? Perhaps I'm just interested in the speculation, more than anything.

Here's a video of her for your viewing pleasure:

Just for speculation than, if you would say that she is out of a France Saarloos line I would believe you......It is just that she is smaller

Only 40 lbs? My German Shepherd mix weighs 45 lbs, and she is smaller than my Tamaskans. I don't think she has Tamaskan in her, but she really is lovely!

She is gorgeous and very wolf-like in the picture. Beautiful pose.

She does look awfully similar to a French Saarloos, but you're right, she is small and rather light (but pulls like a motherf*cker)! I can see her blending in with sled dogs from Brent Sass's and Sebastian Schnuelle's kennels.

Thanks for the speculations/guesses! :)

She looks like she could be Alaskan Husky. Contrary to popular belief, some of the lines run small and only average a size around 45 pounds.

Actually most lines of alaskans I know are on the smaller size ;)
Totally depends on what lines you are looking at.
I wanted to add the greenland dog lines a couple of years ago, when I started running my wolfdogs. They are much more massive and more compatible with how the wolfdogs work. Sadly enough my husband REALLY didnt want greenland dogs or the alaskan lines that have them mixed in :(
