How's the weather down there?

Post by Katlin » Tue Oct 11, 2011 3:19 am

I'm curious to see how other people's climate is.

Right now it's 10°C and the grass is starting to grow brown :( Buuut snow next week! :D

Way down south in my part of Texas, we got reaaally nice temps of low to mid-70F with overcast all day! :D

The ground was slightly muddy from the "massive" downpour of rain from last night and early morning - double yay! We really needed the rain, if even to just dampen the super dry ground a bit. 70F is def MUCH better than 95-105+ F that we've been getting since late April.

I'd say this is one of the worst summers EVER. No rain since "winter" of early this year (Jan-Mar) and very sparse rain in only the past couple weeks. My neighborhood is under level 2 water restrictions - only allowed to water our lawns once per week, no more than 5 gallons of free watering (standing with a watering hose), no car washing ($500 fine per offense by HOA). Methinks it's also a record drought since the 1980s...

Can't wait for "winter" to roll around the corner again. I think I won't mind the 50F weather we MIGHT get. LOL. But def still need more rain...always a risk of brush fires down here. NOT cool. :(

9°C, overcast, tiny rain will start any minute. Been this way for more than a week. I'd appreciate if you could send some of the Texan drought our way:] Everything still green but some trees are getting yellow and red, autumn is here.

Yeah most of the leaves are gone here. 2 weeks ago we set heat records (34 C) and now we're all so excited to see 15. I don't like "in-between" seasons...I just want snow so I can ski!

but i was thinking... if sam doesn't like mud and puddles. how will he deal with deep (ish) snow?

For those who are getting rain, ship some down to Texas? XD I think if you look at a recent satellite image of Texas, it's all yellow and brown. lol.

I'd be happy to send the drought away and distribute it accordingly...problem is, how do you transport a drought?

Hey, send some snow down here too when y'all get some. ;) I'm sure it'll stay somewhat frozen with a generous amount of dry ice. It's OK if it's slightly slushy!!

You can bottle it. And don't forget to mark the year, I bet it will age well. Imagine another gloomy cold wet day in European city, people in the streets hiding their apathetic faces deep in their wet coats. And then they pass a bright street sign announcing - a bottle of pure American drought! A special offer - 2011, what a good year!

That photo is beautiful!
It is finally cooling down a little here, sitting in the 80's (F) during the day and 60's or lower at night. We don't get pretty colors though, still seeing green but things will just start turning brown.

Thank you, I'm glad you like the picture.

Raksha is always exploring new spaces, and in this case it was a wobbly ladder. On the way there I balanced on the dam and quickly took the photo through the branches.
The interesting part came when she tried to get back:] She started to turn, wobbly and balancing, and I was already preparing for the amazingly funny picture of my graceful wolfdog falling head first into the water... but she didn't! Somehow she managed to balance it out and turn around and the she quickly ran back on the dam. As an owner I was relieved but as a photographer I was so disappointed;]
I have documented her "S***, I'm in trouble!" expression as a consolation though;]

Image
What an interesting piece of wood, I wonder where it leads?

Image
Err, I'm not sure I want to be here...

Image
There is no other way back.

Image
This is embarrassing... I hope no one is watching!

Image
Almost there. No problem.

I cheered when it snowed a few days ago too, sadly it all melted in a few hours... Just waiting for it to stick. It's cold enough in the air but the ground just isn't frozen yet. The snow is late this year, and I wish it would hurry up.

-13 C tomorrow, and it's SNOWING! Woo! The kinda sucky part is that no one can drive (I swear it's like trying to drive with 12 years old who don't know which is gas and which is brake) and that tends to make you late for school :P
