I hope so, I said that I didn't care about the gender since I'm ready for both.

At first I thought these were Tamaskans or mutts related to the breed. Then I realized that they are Czech Vlcaks. Still very beautiful sled-dogs nonetheless. :D

either that harness isn't fitted correctly, or that dog has some hip problems...

Yeah someone did send me this on FB but I have seen this video two years ago before and thought that the dogs were some other mutts due to not knowing that some Czech can be trained for sled pulling. I thought they were just some other mutts

The dog on the left, in the back (closest to the camera)?

Yep, it has very strange / unnatural hip movement - it could be dysplasia but it could also be due to an incorrectly fitted harness.

There is something here that looks wrong too.. it's like he doesn't pull at all.. like he is kinda stiff right hind leg movement

*sigh* I miss the snow. Maybe not selling our house in our old town is a sign. Maybe I'll find a job somewhere north of here again :D
Can't wait for winter! Tired of the heat...

Oh, crap. I hate bad news. One of my mentors died today. :( Jeffery Boswall of the BBC taught Wildlife Filmmaking at Missoula's International Wildlife Film Festival. I took the course from him in 2000, and then went to MSU's grad program because he told me about it (new program). *sigh* Always hard to lose a friend. Even harder to lose a wildlife filmmaker who had a heart of gold. RIP Jeffery.

Spot is a cat. No he's never been gone like this before. Our cats are getting old now and don't go as far as they use to. Spot was my brother's cat and my brother is living in New York. If we tell him Spot is missing…I don't think he would cope very well.

Dog fights... pretty scary...

Last Tuesday we took Sam for a walk to a popular walking spot (it involved a car ride :D ) and there were a couple with a Cocker Spaniel (not on leash)... They asked if Sam was good so i said yes except he bounces in excitement and woo woooo's so she let her dog meet Sam which i was pretty happy with (people normally take 1 look at him and either do a U-turn or a very wide arch around us)... All was good, butt sniffing, tails wagging, Sam bounced up, woo wooo'd and play bowed...

The response to Sam's play bow was a bite to the ear, Sam cried, growled, snapped and tried to retreat but the dog kept going for his feet and no matter how hard i tried, because the other dog was off leash, i couldn't get Sam away or the other dog to stop... The dogs owners were just stood meekly calling the dog to come back to which it paid no attention and by that time Sam has had enough so he had a go back (he didn't nip, just a lot of noise and teeth baring)... It was only when their dog got hold of Sam's neck did they make some feeble attempt to get their dog (lucky Sam has a fluffy neck, no scrapes or scratches)...

I wanted so badly to just kick the dog and just make it go away but it was so small and i never blame the dog for anything that happens... I didn't want to hurt it or worse, make it bite me in public with people watching because that could make it end badly for the dog...

I just don't get why people don't think or act more quickly... If Sam was capable, he could have seriously hurt the poor dog... He just couldn't hurt it tho, even if it was making him cry...

Poor Sam.. you better go get him some positive experiences with dogs before the incident gets too far back so that he won't start being scared of other dogs because of it..

I am sorry to say that I might have kicked a dog that attacked my dog, if not I could get my hands on it that is..

I have a pet corrector spray that I use for Maya when she occasionally decides to lunge for a dog (all noise and snapping, no barking). It makes a loud hissing noise that distracts her and then I tell her 'nicely'. It's good for Maya because her problem is mostly leash reactivity so when she's naughty she's right beside me to correct her.

Anyway, my point is the instructions that come with the bottle say that it can be used to distract aggressive dogs that go after your dog. Might be worth carrying a little bottle of the stuff around just in case, even if you never use it. You're supposed to spray it near them not at them so that they hear the noise but don't feel the spray but if that doesn't work you could always spray the freezing cold compressed air onto the dog to shock them out of what they are doing. I wouldn't do that to my dog but if someone else's dog bit mine I would certainly do it to them!

I feel pretty bad for not doing, but because i never blame the dog i (stupidly) give owners a chance to get their dog unless it is doing some serious damage. I think it was just trying to 'dominate' him using force because it could have broken skin on his ear or leg but it didn't... It only nipped.

I'm waiting to hear back from a dog trainer who trains for good citizen in victoria stilwell style training... But we are going out meeting dogs again (well, the few he is allowed to meet anyhow)... Hackles are present right now but he'll get over it... Sam is just so sensitive :D

Thank you, yes i shall be investing... Dog attack are a growing problem in the uk (not sure about anywhere else but definitely in the uk) so it's better to be safe than sorry. My aunty who lives a few hours away has never had a problem taking her dog out in 9 years and now she is terrified because a dog has attacked... It's a shame it's coming down to this...

Animals are so much more humane - "survival of the fittest" usually applies to protection and food! It seems the only way man can "thin" out its herd is to kill each other for insane reasons (or even no reason at all) :(

People's patience have been thinning... Economy is in bad shape, with high unemployment, low pay/low hours, collage students with degrees but no work to pay off student debt... I am really surprised we haven't seen more shootings. My conclusion is collage is a waste of money these days unless you are going to go get masters and Phd's in a field that is really in need of people.

Just saw the Dead Can Dance live at Wolftrap National Park in Virginia. Absolutely fantastic. If you don't know their music, you've been missing out. For those non-creative types--skip it--you won't "get it". I saw them live for the Spiritchaser album about 18 years ago...Lisa's voice hasn't wavered a bit. :D

Here's a nice review of their new album: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/162 ... anastasis/

We get spambots from time to time, and usually manage to zap them before they post too much junk - luckily there's a 'delete all posts' option so we don't have to delete each one individually :)

Nah, just means that there were two full moons in the month (August 1 and 31). We'll just have to look at it through blue-colored glasses

Aww...I was looking forward to an actual blue moon! :( Bummer...and double bummber because I don't have blue colored glasses or any of those clear blue film papers we used to use in grade school for projects. lol. I may have to get my BFF to get me some. hahaha.

Never thought of blue glasses  ...
I've actually been counting the the days to the 'blue moon' since half way through last month because, it's on a friday which is a euro lottery day... My mum said i have about as much chance of winning the lottery as i have seeing a blue moon :D (or pigs flying... but i thought i'd go for the moon :D ) so i'm gonna hold her to that

There’s a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego.
The other is Good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness and truth.

The wolf that wins? The one you feed!

~ Cherokee Proverb

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity... I'm not sure about the former.

I slept for 11 hours after my second shift. It's pretty tiring working 12 hours soldering around the clock

12 hour shifts suuuuucccckkkk! I had to do one stock one (overnight so 6pm to 6am) at rogers and I think I dozed off a couple of times...on my break of course! 10 hour shifts are pretty good so long as you are busy (lots of moolah!) but I must say I love my 8 and 5 hour shifts >:)
