US Tamaskan Dog Club, Inc. (USTDC)

Post by Hawthorne » Mon May 21, 2012 3:20 pm

US Tamaskan Dog Club, Inc. http://www.ustdc.org

Do we want multiple-year memberships available? 3 year, 5 year? Lifetime? Should there be incentives for the longer memberships such as a bumper sticker for 3 year, coffee mug for 5 year, etc?

Besides shows, what do we want to do as a group? What else would you like to see besides a newsletter?

Are there things that other breed clubs do that you would like to see the USTDC do for their membership?

Thanks!

The first two shows were held in North Carolina, the one this year is in Wisconsin. I thinking they have been held more on this side of US is cause the majority of tams are over here at this point. Who knows where it will be held next as a lot of pups have recently gone out west.

First things first; I'd like to see instructions how to renew my membership!

I also like the idea of 1,3,5, year and lifetime memberships.
Perhaps a "store" of Tamaskan promotional items. (t-shirts, mugs, car magnates etc) With profits donated to Tamaskan Rescue.
and maybe a data base of the achievements of our Tamaskans. (obedience titles, therapy dog certification, search&rescue certification- rescues achieved, stuff like that.)

I've actually been trying to work on designs for Tamaskan keychains (metal charms and painted clay charms), a glass jar with the TDR logo etched in for doggie treats, and customized fleece tug-of-war ropes (different patterns/colours). All the supplies for these I get from the store I work at and decided that half of the money made would go to the Tamaskan Rescue, and the other half for buying the supplies.
Here is the prototype of the metal charm keychain

That's pretty cool. I can't wait til we have an official aussie club. Might need more than 3 members first. Haha. Also someone who can make websites and is good at organising... Ok who wants to move to Australia?

Thanks for the ideas. Much of this has been in the works, but on back burners for a while. We hope to change that soon :D

The logo has been voted on and shown at the US Tamaskan Dog Annual Show. We have just a few minor changes to clean it up and then we can begin using it.

Hello!
It's been a while since we've posted here.
What ideas do folks have for our club at this point? We sure could use some volunteers to help move some things along. What ideas do you have to help increase membership? We did a mass mailing to all Tam owners in the US to encourage membership (and to just let them know we exist!).

You can find the USTDC membership application on our Facebook page here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/3981124 ... 707468054/

Also, TDR Tamaskan can now register their dogs with the American Rare Breed Association. Just submit the following form with your TDR registration certificate / 3 gen pedigree:

I have been struggling with becoming a member of the USTDC. As I haven't really seen what I get out of being in the club. Since the breed is so small, any club gatherings are likely NOT close enough for many to take a day trip. Have there even been any club gatherings in 2014...or planned in the remainder of 2014.

The application found on the FB page doesn't really spell out how I benefit.

The application also needs to be updated as it says "If plans are made to breed at the earliest age allowed by the Breeder’s Contract (15 months for females),...". The TDR website states "Not breed any female before the age of 18 months old". There could be a few other updates .

Is the club mainly made up of registered breeders at this point; even though anyone can join?

Also, are there any benefits to registering with ARBA?

Just looking for clarification.

There was to be a show / gathering in 2014 but it was cancelled because the lead committee member had to resign for personal reasons. We really regretted having to cancel, but there simply wasn't enough time to reschedule and get things going in another location / city. Planning a show takes almost an entire year and is a lot of work!

Typically we meet once per year and yes, we have over 65 members now, so we are not just made up of breeders. (Although all US TDR registered breeders are highly encouraged to join.) In 2012 and 2013 we held the show in Madison, WI. Lots of folks from the east coast (me included) attended. It was not just a one day event but we held get togethers over three days (Board meeting, membership meeting, breeders meeting, pack walk, social, and lectures / workshops as well as the show). We hope to have either an east coast show in 2015 or have a show in Kansas. It just depends on what can be arranged. Our board is comprised entirely of volunteers who all also work full time at "real jobs." :D

The membership fee supports the yearly show as well as any items that the club members vote on. (For instance, a display about the breed that can be taken to large events. Or in the past, breed rescue.) We have a quarterly newsletter that only members receive. We also inform club members regarding TDR business and give our membership a voice on the international level. USTDC members get to vote on USTDC business. We also offer additional support to members regarding Tamaskan ownership. There are discounts to members on club merchandise. You will receive a membership card in the mail. Our membership fees have also helped support our non-profit filing, etc. as that is not free. We also have a few volunteer committees who work on different projects from time to time.

There is no link between USTDC membership and ARBA membership (one does not get a discount for the other).

Joining ARBA will get you discounts on ARBA / KC USA show entry fees. Registering your dog with ARBA is mandatory if you want to show your dog with ARBA. In general, most ARBA shows do not have an altered class so fixed pets are not able to compete. (The purpose of a dog show is to select breeding stock, hence the need to have an in tact dog.) The benefit to showing your breeding quality TDR Tamaskan with ARBA is the ability to obtain titles. Once you accrue so many points and wins, your dog can earn it's Championship. Additionally, ARBA / Kennel Club USA offer the ability to obtain an International Championship--something that is not possible in other registries unless you travel abroad to compete with your dog (it's a big deal!). So if you are a potential breeder or are currently a breeder of TDR Tamaskan, showing your dogs should be important to you. A third party evaluation of your dog is important--it's not a beauty contest, but rather an evaluation of structure and conformation to the breed standard. :D Dog shows "validate" the best breeding dogs.

Thank you for pointing out the membership application needs updated. I will take care of the update as soon as I can.
