Cody Wyoming

Post by RoyAM » Sun Jun 27, 2010 10:09 am

Well we now have a suprise new addition the the family.

We have taken the name of the Rodeo town Cody in Wyoming to be the name of our new 7-1/2 weeks old Alaskan Malamute girl. This is her first day at home after a peacefull night and today she gets introduced to Dakota and Nebraska.

Puppy photo's of Cody-Wyoming will follow shortly

She is a Shepherdsway Malamute and her Sire was shepherdsway Gatekeeper (keeper). Keeper is the son of Shepherdsway Phanton Scout who sadly passed away a few months back around the same time as nakita, Scout was a very famous Mal who fathered many litters in his years, looks like keeper will follow in his footsteps.

Lynn also has a litter using keeper which im sure she wont mind me saying, and she will surely have some absolutely stunning puppies. wish she was connected back online to see how these pups are getting on.

When sara saw keeper she wanted to take him home right away, he is a stunning Mal of the "old school" type

he is in full moult right now and sheading everywhere, here is a pic of keeper the way you dont see him in the show ring

Fun :o 3 malamute puppies lol yes there are some good times, but there may be some tiring times ahead, even already nebraska is showing a little jelousy, whilst dakota is sitting back saying hey; look at my chicks, lol.

They say with malamutes its very difficult for 2 females to get along unless mother & daughter, we will see.

Sara says a lady from her work was chatting to you a few weeks back about tamaskans when you met at the Marina/water front.

How are your two getting on?

Cody hates being alone whilst the other two are walked, she wont have her 2nd injection until next week coming

so in the mean-time;

Lynn

are Tams as stuborn as Malamutes, I think you of all people will be best to judge due to the amount of time you spend with both breeds

As for Dakota; you have his temperment SPOT-ON, never have I seen a malamute with such good temperament the only other I have seen this way is Nebraska, you think "Made in America" has a lot to do with this as both have same father
Our Cody-W from gatekeeper is a different story all together although she is learning to behave from the other two

We have now got them returning back to us once off the lead and 200 yards away, they even returned when chasing a rabbit, this - I have never heard off or seen before with a malamute, but the dog whistle works, we started off with a squiker from a squiky toy and each time they came back we rewarded with a treat, then swapped over from the squiker to the dog whistle.

I wouldnt say that Tamaskan are as stubborn but then again it depends on the individual. I have some Tamaskan that I can let off the lead no worries, and others I wouldnt dare. Same with the Malamute. Devon and Ellie though (mother and daughter) are fantastic at staying close and coming when called.
Ellie was mated to the Finnish Taolan and produced Devon, and Badger my male import is also a son of Taolan making Devon and Badger half brother and sister. There is NO WAY on earth I would let Badger off the lead  and yet Devon and Taolan are great off the lead. Ellie is an Arctictrek and they are all chilled dogs so I guess this is where Devon and her pup's behaviour stems from. Sherman (Made in America) is also good of the lead. There are definately some bloodlines that are better than others in this breed I have observed around the show rings.
