he is so huge, handsome and wolfy looking in his winter coat! Is there a female tam big enough that could handle breeding with him?

Well there are already two females in the US who bred with Jaeger, a male who is also HUGE, and both of the female were/are successful parents. As long as the mother is within the medium-size, it will be fine. Female Huskies are sometimes mated with male Malamutes and the Malamutes themselves have also at one point were crossed with the bigger St. Bernards. Also in the wild, male Grey wolves sometimes breed with female coyotes who are smaller than them which has been happening in Eastern Canada since the Pre-Columbian time when a population of eastern Pre-Columbian coyotes along with their Grey wolf cousins were nearly wiped out by an unknown cause (perhaps by humans) and the remnant Grey wolves resorted to mating with the remaining coyotes giving rise to these Eastern Coywolves. To get to the point, as long as the female is within the medium range, breeding her with a large male is not a problem. We just don't breed large males to small toy breeds like male malamutes to female chihuahuas for the obvious reasons.

I also thought that even a small dog with in a breed isn't usually bred to a male too much larger than herself

Unfortunately there ARE idiots out there who have bred their small bitches like pomeranians to large males. Most of these cases are usually accidents though and it's a lot of exhaustion on the mother to release a pup that is stretching her belly to far ability to handle. C-Session may be required for such cases.
