Kumho

Post by Ryphen » Sat Mar 24, 2012 10:40 pm

Been reading this forum for a while and now that we've had a Tamaskan for 2.5 months, I figured I'd stop being lazy and post some pictures. Though getting him to stay still so they don't blur is pretty hard. He's from the same litter as Paka and Fable. Every time we go for a walk, at least one person says he looks like a wolf, but I don't think anyone has seriously thought he is one yet. And yes, my fiance got his name from the tire company.

That's a nice tip. Can try that or upgrade our ancient digital camera one day.

And thanks everyone for the comments. Love looking at all the pictures on here even if I can't keep all the dogs straight!

So Kumho is 8 months old now, time for some updated pictures! It was also an excuse to play around with a new camera. Went down to a local lake to see what he thought about swimming. He's not really a fan, but he had no problem wading in.

Would it be possible for Kumho to entertain a stud career? ;)

He does look a little like the early Alba dogs including the lines that Blaze comes from. What's his Double J registered name?

Kuhmo is from the same litter that produced Angie's Paka and Fable...which is also same litter that Nusia (J&J Christmas Grinch) was from. Not sure what his kennel name is, but I'm pretty sure he's not registered with the TDR because his sire, J&J Night Owl (Jethro) failed his hip scores.

Kuhmo's dam, Alba Sverical at J&J (Ruby) is half sibling to Blaze - parents are Moonstone Make Me Pure (Odin) and Alba Lycan (Lycan). Blaze's dam is Alba Lycaon (Xena). Lycan and Xena are full sisters. Jethro (Kuhmo's sire) is full sibling to Tarheel's Tundra, but I don't think he inherited as light yellow eyes as Tundra. Confused yet? XD In short, the litters produced by J&J's current breeding pair (Ruby x Jethro) are (very?) close cousins to the OBX litter.

I'm not surprised that he looks a lot like the OBX litter since their background is very similar (almost the same! lol). I think Kuhmo will grow up to look a lot like his full brother, Darwin, at Hawthorne. :D

His kennel name is J&J Moon River, but Ryph knows more about his lineage than I do. :) Also I don't know if Jethro failed his hip scores or not, I think the BVA just wouldn't read them because his microchip # wasn't on the x-rays. Shame too because we know Jethro had some pups with great hips! (Mr. Darwin)

I have a video from the NTCA meet a few weeks back with Kumho and Darwin in the same shot, I have to see if I can get a still from it to post here. The resemblance is perfect, I kept confusing which dog was ours.

Pending good test results he might become an available stud in the future!

Edit: here we go

I think I heard they were failing per OFA and there was a bit of a misunderstanding with the xrays being sent to the BVA...? Something like they weren't ever sent to the BVA. :?

I would assume you'd be able to tell the difference due to size, but if they're about the same size, then you'd be doing double-takes the whole time! Hah! I am happy to hear he may get a stud career. ;)

Kumho and Darwin are very similar in color the only thing that helped me tell them apart at the show was their size.

Yes, I believe Jethro's hips were scored as failing by the OFA and were going to be sent to the BVA for their opinion but never got there for some reason or another. I think I remember Judy saying they wouldn't take the radiographs because they didn't have a microchip number on them and her vet was insisting on taking a new set which she didn't want to put him under anesthesia for again.

And size was what I was using to tell Kumho and Darwin apart at the show because they looked so much alike otherwise, especially at a distance. If they get to be the same size, I'm going to be in trouble. Call me a bad dog owner for not being able to recognize my own dog. xD

LOL! I think the only other thing you can do is make sure their collars/tags/harnesses are different. ;) Might be worth it to coordinate this with Hawthorne in case you find Kuhmo and Darwin together.

Stupid question: Will the BVA not score a dog if there's no ID info on the x-rays themselves?

Yes they need to be microchiped or tattooed and that number has to be on the x-rays.

Ok, this isn't in the snow. Christmas weekend at the in-laws. Opening presents is hard work.

Also not in the snow. This was a Christmas miracle since someone is in their cranky teenager phase and doesn't want to share anything with the cats.
