Saga (Saxon Vulpecula)

Post by JulieSmith » Thu Mar 10, 2011 11:32 am

While no dog could ever replace Thor in our hearts there was a big Tamaskan shaped hole in our lives (and a large sack of puppy food). We decided that if we got a female then it would not feel like a replacement for Thor and Pete kindly agreed that we could have one of his litter.

We have called her Saga, which we are pronouncing 'Sayga' rather than 'Sarga' as that reminds me of old people on holiday!!

We chose the name as it means Daughter of Odin and she is the goddess of Story telling, poetry and I think History, she is also linked with remembrance and good memories. It also felt right getting a Saxon puppy as Odin and Frigga are the other two gods often depicted with Thor and also he had met the puppies. She also suits her name as she is a right chatter box.

Here are a few photos of her to introduce her to the Tamaskan community, I am sure we will take a lot more as she grows.

Oh wow she is so beautiful!! She of course will never be a replacement for your lovely Thor but a new puppy does help to fill just a little of that huge hole left when you lose a friend. I hope she brings you much happiness and many smiles and i am sure sure Thor will be looking down with a wagging tail approving very much!! :)
It is so lovely that he met her too , maybe he chose her for you that day. :D

Thanks Jen, She is lovely she has already put a smile on our faces, I also like to think that Thor guided us to this puppy, there is such coincidences in the names of the parents and then finding her name and the fact that we had taken him to see Lynn when she was at Petes just a few short weeks ago.

She is winning our hearts with her lovely nature, although I could do without the soil all over my room from the plant she brought in, really must stop looking at this site and sweep it up.

It makes me happy to think that Thor wasn't your last Tamaskan - loosing a friend is tough loosing family is even tougher, and I'm not sure I would get a Tam for a loong time again if it happend to me..
I have been worried about you, and thinking a lot.. so this makes me very happy - and she is SO beautiful!

I am so glad!!  about the plant , Sash still does this at 17 months!

I am a big believer that there are no coincidences , just fate and I am sure Saga was always meant to be your girl. A similar thing happened we lost our golden retriever unexpectedly an hour before we were due to set out to get Sasha! That cant be a coincidence!

Hope you will post lots of pictures of her and if you are ever at a loose end one sunday when My brings her Tams over to play then you must join us! We are only in Shrewsbury which is within an hour and a half of south manchester. If not then I hope I can meet her in may at the show. :D

She is very cute. I'm glad to hear that Saga is helping to fill the hole left by Thor's loss. I also don't believe in coincidences and I think everything happens for a reason, even if we don't understand it at the time. Congrats on your new pup and be sure to post lots of photos! :)

She really is a beauty, and I am confident in that she was meant to be yours especially considering the names of her parents, and how odin and frigg had a son named thor, its amazing how things just seem to work out. Everytime I researched names I came across the name Thor and thought of what your family must be going through. But everything happens for a reason and now you guys have Saga and will hopefully begin to fill that void you must be dealing with now. Make sure you keep us updated on her I really want to see what Odin jr's siblings grow up to look/behave like :)

Thanks for all your lovely comments, I think she was meant to be ours, I just wish we did not have to loose Thor to get her, but with her around I can remember him with a smile rather than tears.

Jen, once she is old enough we would love to come and visit, it would be lovely to see her playing with other Tams.

Nino, It was very hard deciding to get another Tam so soon, but it was either now or wait till Autumn and that was too long. To be honest we did not even think about a different breed. When I drove over on the Saturday to get her it was with very mixed feelings, but a room full of puppies, Odin and Frigga soon took any doubt away that it was the right thing to do. She does not replace Thor in our hearts, but she does make his absence more bearable.

Everything happens for a reason! I'm sad for your loss of Thor, but happy for your gain of a new love. I think Thor would want you to be happy, and the fact it's with a tamaskan makes it that much better :)
Here for a "howling" good time :)

She is absolutely beautiful, she really is. It was so upsetting to read about Thor's accident and I'm just so glad to hear that you've welcomed a bundle of fluff into the house once more. As everyone has said, she can't replace him, but that's okay - she was never meant to. I'm sure he'll be happy that you're showering a new puppy with all the love you gave him. She's adorable :)

She is such a lovely dog, she has really helped all the family, even our old dog is happier with her around.

Wen: I think she may be the puppy sat on the hearth looking at him in the second photo in the second set of pictures, but it is a guess.

She is growing quickly, when I got her last Saturday I was told she was 10.3KG and today I weighed her and she is now 11.2kg and about 16 inches (40cm) tall, difficult to measure as she would not keep still for long.

My daughter bathed her as she had somehow got her poo all over her, something about rolling around in the garden! Apparently it was very noisy, she told my daughter just how much she did not want a bath. I suppose I will find out once she can go for proper walks and finds fox poo!! I just wish they would learn roll in fox poo = bath, but our old terrier has never learned so I am not holding out any hope that Saga will be any better.
