Getting stationed Stateside, want to adopt a tamaskin

How's it going everyone,

Nothing's officially official. No orders or anything. But it seems at this current time that it will be unlikely I will remain stationed overseas. Which for me is bitter sweet. I enjoy living overseas but being a single airman I'm forced to live in the dorms on base. And the dorms overseas pretty much only allow fish for pets. If I do get stationed stateside, I will have the ability to own a dog (or at least so I hope). And ever since Wave made the front page of the Technician with his first appearance at NCSU, I've wanted to adopt a Tamaskin. I've got a few questions, but I guess I'll save most of them for later. My main one is who would I need to talk to?

Research all breeders and start emailing them with your questions :) You can find the list of them on http://www.tamaskan-dog.org

Hey! Welcome. My husband and I just got back state side from overseas as well :D feel free to message me! I love it when there are other military members in the community, there are a few of us and it's neat to just have somebody else who understands. Good luck with your search and hope to hear from you :)

Ok, I've got my listing. I'll be heading to Birmingham Alabama to the Guard Base there! I'm active duty so this will be weird in a good way. I'll only be working 4 days a week and will have lots of free time. This will give me ample time to raise a pup! I'll see about getting in contact with breeders in the area.

The closest breeder to that area is Tarheel in North Carolina, after that would be Hawthorne in Pennsylvania. Good luck!

I'm actually from NC and was introduced to the breed through Wave while I was a student at NCSU! I've sent them an email and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Is Tarheel getting one?

Nope, but a family with a young, well-known Tarheel pup is getting one... ;)
and the other person was referred to me by Tarheel (and their pup will be used as a service / PTSD therapy dog!) :D

I was actually thinking about trying to see about training my pup (when I get him) along the lines like a service /PTSD therapy dog. I don't need one as of yet and hopefully I don't leave the military with PTSD but it's good to hear that Tamaskans can fill the roll if need be. I haven't heard back from Tarheel's email yet. I'll see about sending them another in a few days. I don't want to flood their inbox. I'm also still months away from even being stateside so I just need to remind myself to be patient.
