Re: Dog Backpacks :)

I just want to add a little weight to see how it helps her with her walk. Nothing heavy. Just a little more of a workout for her to keep her happy :) My step son is thrilled with the idea of the dogs carrying their own poo. That's his job, otherwise. (we would, of course, double bag it so ther...

Yes, I agree with you. There is no reason to kill this animal. Well I could go on and on about this--but local laws prohibit relocation. (rabies, etc.--which is sort of silly because there have only ever been 3 coyotes documented with rabies in our entire state.) *sigh* It sounds like the trapper mi...

Dog Backpacks :)

Yesterday we took our pups into the local pet shop to pick up food, and we decided on an additional purchase: a backpack. Has anyone used backpacks with their dogs before? I think we'll add some water bottles to her pack on normal walks to help her get more exercise. In the summer, we plan on freezi...

Yes, I've tried walking one on the left side, and one on the right side. Forget it! I make my husband come with me on walks now. Fenris is 21 months, and Freyja is 15 months--so their both young. Both opposite personalities, too: Fenris is goofy and wags his whole body (Lab coming out in him), loves...

Freyja digs too. I don't mind so much--I don't care about grass. It's the dirt that they track in the house (which then in turn makes me care about the grass). Our local garden shop owner is also big into Irish Wolfhounds. She said planting tall fescue (type of grass) will be the most resilient to d...

Freyja has been the same. She once stole my father-in-laws entire dinner while he left the room. We still can't leave the room, but she won't touch it if we're in the room (even if o...

Re: teaching not to pull on the leash

Yes, this makes perfect sense! If there's another dog there it's competition to be the one in front, since the lead dog is the boss. (This is why trainers insist that the dog always remains by your side or behind, never in front, because it helps to reinforce the idea that YOU are the boss.) Walkin...

While that works for most, we've tried those. (both stopping when they pull, and the Halti.) Neither worked. Freyja just wore the fur off of her face with the halti. She's determined to pull. So now we have the anti-pulling harness (made by the same company as the head collar) and that doens't work ...

just wondering, how do you walk multiple dogs at once? I can't walk both of mine at the same time--they go in opposite directions and I end up feeling like I've been put on the rack by the end of the hour walk. They're both still young--so maybe that's the issue. Fenris is from the Humane Society--so he was fixed before 8 weeks old. He was quite interested in Freyja when she was in heat. Re: US Laws

Uh, this is horrible. As far as your other questions wolf-look-alikes are not a problem in Pennsylvania. There are no laws for this, and there are no laws in our city of Erie, either. However, I'm not sure about other cities (my suspicion would be for larger cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh)....

US Laws

I thought it might be good to post laws here in a thread on wolf ownership. In Pennsylvania , you need a permit from the PA Game Commission to own a wolf. Wolfdogs can be owned by anyone--but I do know there are different local laws about having them within city limits. For instance, within our city...
