Re: New outcrosses?

The problem with utonagans etc, is that as the tam came from those lines, at least partly, you are going to have the same issues tracing accurate pedigrees, actual breeds used etc, as you do now. If you think Blustag and blufawn have made a mess of things, than understand this, that was and still ma...

Re: New outcrosses?

I agree with the gist of it too, but for me personally, there'd be breeds I'd consider before the st Bernard, that's just personal preference on my part.

Re: New outcrosses?

I'm not sure st. Bernard would be the way to go either tbh, but I do think as said before, that it may benefit the breed in the long run, to sacrifice the look, for a little time at least. Whilst the breed is still in development, I'd take every oppertunity to increase diversity, because once you re...

Re: New outcrosses?

I think they're a smaller breed in general, more medium than large. I was thinking more temperament/working ability, probably not suitable though. The breed just popped into my head lol. Another for appearance in as much as they come in wolf grey and have erect ears, would be the Jindo, but temperam...

Re: New outcrosses?

In this light, would you yourself be willing to have a Tamaskan mix? If the right dog was used, if it was going to help, if it wasn't sold full price and if it was local to avoid excess transport/fuel costs then most likely. But, you'd need to find potential breeding homes for them which is somethi...

Re: New outcrosses?

Plenty of people seem to want a cross, if the rising numbers of doodles, poo's, huskamutes, borderjacks, springadors etc, are any indication. Health, genetic diversity and temperament, .should.always.come.before.appearance.to me, at least. I've no want for a pretty breed, that will spiral into extin...

Re: New outcrosses?

As I said previously, estrelas come in wolf grey, amber and yellow eyes too. However, they can be brindle and blue as well. Their ears are small but never erect unless cropped. Whilst their tails aren't curly like a sib or mal, they do tend to have a hook in the end. They could provide the denser sl...

Re: New outcrosses?

Perhaps a lurcher that has gsd in the cross? I did joke about Estrelas before but, my emd pup is so far practically bombproof. He's calm and polite with new people and dogs, accepting of new environments, has a low chase instinct, is responsive to training and can be left alone with minimal fuss. Of...

Remember the gsd used wasnt hip scored, in a breed like the gsd, wouldn't touch with a 10 ft barge poll.

Though I do think gsd would be the best bet for you guys right now.

God not the Csv, to many people are trying to undo the damage created by cross breeding in the uk at least, trying to regain the trust of the Csv community so the breed can have a future here.
You certainly wouldn't be helping if it was done here.

Re: New outcrosses?

I think more important than ear size, is wether or not you want to introduce trates such as mistrust of strangers and protectiveness into the tamaskan breed. Those trates are not an issue for me, but, is that a direction you want to take? Combine those trates with some of the independence described ...

As far as I'm concerned, if I have to accept australian and English shepherd, as names for breeds created in America, than I can accept another breed with a name not relating to the country of origin. Another apparent difference between dog and cat breeders, is the attitude towards early castration. On the other hand, I wouldn't touch a...
