Spotted by Local News

Ben was out with our three on the recumbent tricycle rig we have so they can pull/run as fast as they like, and was spotted by a photographer for a local newspaper!

Rhea raises hers too when meeting new dogs, usually ones that are bigger than her. I think she's just being bossy/confident/putting on a show for the newcomer.

Warm Welcome to Blufawn Sunshine on my Shoulders

We are so excited to announce that Blufawn Sunshine on my Shoulders will be joining our family here at White Elk Tamaskan! She will arrive in the USA on Wednesday. Rhea and Sophie are so excited to meet their new little sister, even if they don't know it yet. :) The photos we have of her over in the...

I would have to qualify my response (No) with the fact that we take our girls in the car ALL the time and they are quite used to it. When they first arrived both Rhea and Sophie got very carsick. It took two weeks of five minute car trips around the block, and constantly using the car to take them f...

Both Rhea and Sophie do the ears back, full body wagging, walking around in circles in front of you. Every so often Rhea will call out "Rooooooouu!" for emphasis. If you're kneeling Sophie will circle as close to you as she can, then tumble/pour herself into your lab.

Rhea, Sophie and the vacuum have a tentative peace treaty. They neither like, nor loathe eachother, and so long as neither encroach on the other's personal space, life is good.

Re: Shay with double K9 teeth.

Bigger dogs usually don't have problems losing their baby teeth. I used to see little dogs getting surgery to remove stuck baby teeth ALL the time. It's REALLY hard to remove them, root and all, because aside from being very well stuck into the jaw, they break easily, and you have to be sure to fish...

To attest to their climbing skill, Sophie jumped up on top of this rock ( http://imgur.com/a/QuCZB#dTrc3 ) from the BACK (about a 4.5 foot jump) without a second thought. She does that sort of thing to the point that I've taken to calling her my "mountain dog" (VERY bad pun on mountain goat). They'r...

Re: Puppy insurance

It's not scientifically unsound that a mixed breed dog will be healthier than it's purebred parents. The term is "hybrid vigor" I believe. The idea is that healthier traits are naturally more dominant (hence their ability to be passed down through the canine ancestry), and so if they exist in either...

It DEFINITELY varies, even between siblings.

Rhea can hardly ever sit still unless she's just had a lot of exercise.
Sophie on the other hand is perfectly happy to just chill and hang out almost nonstop, with some intermittent chasing of a toy or general play every few hours.

Rhea - One of Saturn's moons. We've had a celestial theme for all our pets (Snake names: Pleione, Merope, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Alcon, Sief, Cetus, Callisto, and some others), and it's got a great sound.

Sophie - I just love the name. It was either Sophie or Adelle.

Sophie destroyed all of our makeshift crate covers, and didn't seem to get much improvement in her feelings about the crate when they were intact. If it is physically possible (and sometimes even if it's not), she found a way to pull part of it into the crate with her & chew it up.
