Re: Will there ever be a TDR Breeder in East-Asia?
b Wow, didn't think my comment would have such an impact. I'm truly sorry if it offended anyone, I didn't mean it like that. It was just the 1st thing that came to my mind, and I have the habit of speaking it  You know... I have been on vacation a few years back to South America (Suriname),...

Re: Will there ever be a TDR Breeder in East-Asia?
Thanks for your support, balto. Of course, there is the issue of whether I am burning my bridges with the breeders due to my honesty. In truth, I am quite a friendly and easy-going person in real life, not bitchy or silly. But there are some things you just have to be clear about. This is a skyline ...

Re: Will there ever be a TDR Breeder in East-Asia?
Well for those who still think Hong Kong people are a bunch of dog eaters or dog abusers, I will educate them here: 1. There are animal cruelty laws in place to prevent and prosecute cases of animal abuse: http://www.spca.org.hk/welfare/eng/lawlist.asp 2. There is a well-established kennel club, th...

Re: Will there ever be a TDR Breeder in East-Asia?
Wow, cannot imagine the offensive and borderline racist posts I've been reading here. Yes, some Asian do eat dogs. But many do not. And certainly no one in Hong Kong eat dogs. I also watched documentaries about school shootings in the US. So just because I watch a documentary about a school shooting...

Re: Known health issues?
I'm sorry to say there are some clear display of ignorance and prejudice in that earlier thread. If that is the kind of breeders I will be dealing with, then no thanks, I will find another breed. I hope that won't be the case, but to deal with people who think all Asians are dog-eaters...

Re: Known health issues?
Sorry for any misunderstanding. Understood. Question of capability. That would probably mean close collaboration and agreement on logistics between an owner and a breeder, and not every breeder (or owner for that matter) has the means to undertake such a task.

Re: Known health issues?
OK, I get the feeling breeders are hostile/unwilling to ship any dogs to this part of the world because of age requirement, at least from North America. It would be hard and unrealistic for the owner to arrange everything such as transportation and lodging from halfway around the world anyway. But m...

Re: Known health issues?
I do not understand because I don't think Asian countries are like AUS. A puppy can come to Japan at 8 weeks - so logistically a breeder wouldn't have to hold into a puppy longer I dont know if its that way in China, or other countries but I haven't heard of it. Those rules are usually for rabies f...

Re: Known health issues?
Why is that the case? Onerous regulations? Unfamiliar culture? Difficulty with shipping across such distances? Or plain prejudice?

Re: Tamaskan Climate
Not correct Tiantai. Hong Kong has a humid subtropical climate rather than tropical climate, akin to the Southeastern US, climate-wise. Yes, summers can be oppressively humid, but winters are cool and dry (and quite pleasant), sometimes dipping close to freezing, but usually between 5-18 degrees C. ...

Re: Known health issues?
Thanks for all the replies so far! Much appreciated! What sort of health screening tests would you recommend if I were intent on buying a pup (I haven't made up my mind yet, but assuming if I were)? Thanks. For example, would a breeder assist in arranging the following to meet vaccine requirments of...

Re: Tamaskan vs. Saarloos wolfdog and Czechoslovakian wolfdo
I see, so Tamaskans, in general, is more husky-like in appearance while Saarloos and CSV is more GSD in appearance. But since Tamaskan is still a very new breed, appearance can still vary alot. And the Tamaskans have wolf content due to the dishonesty of two of the breed founders, but their content ...

Re: Tamaskan Climate
I don't know about Tamaskans, but here in Hong Kong, summer temperature can go way into the 90's (and with the humidity it can feel close to 100 or more). Yet I do see quite a few Malamutes, Huskies, Samoyeds, Akitas and one or two Klee Kais. Of course, our winters are alot more bearable. It doesn't...

Re: Known health issues?
Good point Kylier. I'm no genetics expert, but I do know enough to realize many health issues of other breeds can be traced to a too-small foundation stock and too much inbreeding. I don't know about the Tamaskan's history and breeding, but it seems you guys are working hard to make sure the same he...

Tamaskan vs. Saarloos wolfdog and Czechoslovakian wolfdog.
Hi, I have a question on whether it's easy to tell the difference between a Tamaskan vs a Saarloos wolfdog and Czechoslovakian wolfdog, appearance-wise. What are the distinguishing traits between them in terms of size, colour and general shape? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is ...

Re: General temperament question
Thanks for the replies so far, keep them coming!
I guess there is some variety over temperament, but in general, would you say most Tamaskans would roughly fit the breed standard? Also, how do Tamaskan's temper differ from the Czechoslavakian wolfdog and the Saarloos wolfdog?

Re: Known health issues?
Thanks. So I gather the health issues, while it exists for the Tamaskan (as is the case for most other breeds), is not too bad compared to some other more "established" breeds. I know some popular breeds had serious health and temperament issues from excessive inbreeding or unscrupulous breeding. Gl...

Known health issues?
Hi, I am looking for a summary or list of all known health issues for the Tamaskan and it's general health status. I was attracted to the breed for it's looks, but I think the breeders don't want to breed just for looks (that would be irresponsible anyway), but also to have sound health and temperam...

General temperament question
Hi all. Just want to ask some general temperament questions regarding the Tamaskan. I read from the breed standard that the Tamaskan is on the whole a friendly breed. And somewhat easier to train and less stubborn than a Husky or Malamute. However, I also read that the Tamaskan, being a new breed, i...
