Not all hip dysplasia is inherited a lot can be down to over exercise ,over feeding etc. when Jackal has sired at least 10 dogs with failed hips, all going to different home environments, I think it is a strong pointer that it's genetic rather than environmental. Sable to merle should not be allowed as this produces bad colouring and merle to merle produces whites who are usually blind.

You can get piebald animals that are homogenous for piebald and there fore can only produce piebald,yet you can get piebalds that arent and can throw all colours solid included .

The two tricolours could be carrying ,blue sable ,etc but when two tris mate together you only get tricolour in the rough collie

No matter what colour the parents of the two tricolour rough collies ,(the parents could be sable) ,the two tricolours mated together would only produce tricolour

No nino you are wrong two tricolour collies can only produce tricolour as Tricolourin the rough collie is recessive and two recessives make a dominant

yes the Agouti (sable ) is a dominant gene in the gsds and in dogs and rabbits etc

Some people misunderstand what is a recessive trait.Or even what a recessive gene is.The recessive gene is a hidden gene ,which crops up generations down the line.Two recessive genes make a dominant. As in rough collies for example the tricolour is a recessive gene,therefore if you mate two tricolou...

What about the eye problems the genetic cea ,pra in collies also some collies can be schipzophenric.Not all but quite a few can i know of several unrelated rough collies that wont walk on certain floor surfaces..also have known breeding lines that produce schipzophrenic dogs.Yes some collies have a ...

Arian I would google the Innuit breeders and the utonagans ,and see what is closest to what you want to breed yourselves..as for the northern breeds i would do the same thing google and see which kennels have what you want.the type you are aiming for ,but something thats as near to what you have now...

I give up i really do....do you want to breed faults in and white factored in,the blue has a receeding skull is to upright on shoulder...im stuck for words i give up...the coats on those arent even weather proof , enjoy your breed...

The collies Torriano and I put up where old fashioned collies and crufts collies...not the stuffys of today..the collies we posted had correct coats..

tatzel those collies you posted are very bad specimens ..the ones Torriano and myself posted where good specimens ,but all collies are a no no.....use an innuit ,husky ,or something but please forget the collies...

The gsd would be one to consider,but not the west german lines as carry haemophillia, roach backed and weak back legs from the hocks...not the DDR (east german, chezch )linesas these have high prey drive and very hard temperaments..maybe the english show lines but be careful as a lot carry epilepsy ...

My son lives in USA and feeds his dogs blue buffalo,and Orijen and swears by them.my dogs are on Royal canin and fish for dogs,when i had my gsds i fed mostly raw.

I agree Torrianno..with what you say..about the collies with the borzoi in ...th borzoi still comes through with roman heads and receeding skulls today and that was many many years ago....its the 4th generation one has to worry about when breeding dogs ..golden retrivers where also used in collies a...

There are no CEA genetically clear dogs in the uk...they may pass clear but our carriers..I studied Cea years ago at the vet college..its a bad thing ..collies are herding dogs but the wolves herd as well,and huskies have high prey drive..I would not bring in Malinois either, as temperaments are not...

In answer to Kootenaywolf collies have tipped ears and the reason why some breeders glue them down is to stop them going pricked, when teething and if the ear is the wrong shape and to light... Having bred and exhibited rough collies.in the 70s..i would not even consider this outcross.a lot of rough...

The Innuit was the first of these type of dogs..then there was a general falling out and the Utonagan became the breed then a falling out with the Utonagan and the Tamskan came in to existence how long before yet another x husky breed comes into existence .Now i reckon soon there will be another nam...

The american gsd is not a good idea and keep away from shiloh shepherds too.What about wolfhounds...have a look at stormlake gsds in uk.
